A BACHELOR’S DREAM STUDIO
Welcome to the epitome of modern urban living—a sleek and stylish studio apartment, in the heart of Amsterdam, a compact yet highly functional studio apartment tailored to suit the lifestyle of a young bachelor. This contemporary abode effortlessly blends functionality with sophistication, offering a space that exudes both comfort and class without taking the fun out of it.
It all began with an idea.
This project has a special place in my heart since it was done for a dear friend who believed in my idea enough to buy the simple studio and make all the changes and investments necessary for my vision to come true. I consulted the client while he was apartment searching through Amsterdam. This one had a great location, and a big garden, while the inside was nothing more than a small dark kitchen, a room without any clear purpose, and a big potential to become something any young professional would love to spend their 20s’ in.
With a little help, defects can become great qualities.
The dark and simple kitchen was positioned on the back of the studio making it very uninviting and not the heart of the home. Due to the placement and the lack of natural light, it made a lot more sense to remove the kitchen and make it a cozy and more secluded bedroom. The new bedroom was sharing a wall with the bathroom, so the ensuite bathroom with a “sexy shower” was just meant to be. This is how the dark kitchen is transformed into a private and sexy bedroom with a “view”.
One space. many activities.
The kitchen made it to be beautiful and highly functional in the center of the home, serving as both a kitchen and bar, sometimes even as a hang-out place. We went for a full black, modern with a light grey stone countertop to ease the transition between the black of the cabinets and the white of the walls. The black was a leitmotiv through this studio’s story. Industrial elements travel from the steel doors to the dining table legs with a finish line in the ensuite bathroom.
The dining area, even if it is not big we placed in the brightest space. the round table is surrounded by windows so one can have a lovely breakfast and add a laptop to do some work.
The TV wall was strategically chosen so that one could enjoy a good movie from the comfort of the sofa as well as the bed on the other side. A special TV support was added to make it possible. And the big blue velvet sofa was the client’s not-so-guilty pleasure. the one thing he wanted to have in his house.
